The Obama Media Group’s Obsession with Romney’s Faith

Have you heard the newsflash? Mitt Romney is a Mormon! Yeah, I know; it shocked the hell out me too – all 42 dozen times the Obama Media Group (OMG) reminded me of it over the weekend. If you didn’t already know that the OMG was in the tank for the O-manyou’d think they were merely obsessed with Mormonism. While the OMG isn’t quite comfortable (yet) attacking Romney’s faith outright – except for MSNBC, of course – they are employing a not-so-subliminal form of advertising – just to remind us – ad nauseum – that the GOP presidential candidate is a member of that “odd, polygamist religion.”

None of this should come as a surprise, mind you; in the eyes of the liberal, anything and everything about the personal lives of conservatives is fair game for ridicule and degradation. (Ask Sarah Palin’s kids – including Down Syndrom son, Trig.)

A recent study by the Culture and Media Institute, “Baptism by Fire,” looked at the coverage by ABC, NBC and CBS of the religions of the Republican primary candidates versus how the same lapdogs covered that of Democrat candidates in 2008. Interesting – but not surprising – stuff. Despite the fact that 75% of Americans identify themselves as Christians and 93% profess a belief in God, (according to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life,) the once “major” networks have determined that, for some reason, the religious beliefs of this year’s Republican candidates is damn newsworthy. In 2008? Nope:

From Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, 2011, network stories mentioned the GOP primary candidates’ faith more than seven times as often (143 stories to 19 stories) than they had for Democratic hopefuls between those same dates during the 2008 election cycle. As it relates to Mormonism, ABC, NBC and CBS have made 57 specific references to Romney’s faith since Oct. 31 – on top of the more than 100 times they talked about it from Jan. 1-Oct. 31, 2011.

Funny how the liberal media “worries” aloud that Main Street Americans may have trouble accepting that Mitt Romney is a Mormon, huh? It never seems to bother itself with Islam…

  1. There is no question that this will be a prominent part of Obama’s campaign strategy. And it is likely to work.

  2. Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups.

  3. It’s tougher being a Mormon than it is in most other churches; therefore, Mormons seem to work harder at living up to their principles than many members of the others. So being a Mormon seems to me a plus in evaluating someone. However, politicians as a group tend, I think, to use their religion (if any) when there’s a return and to forget it when there isn’t. Most of Romney’s principles seem pretty flexible to me; it leads to believing that his religiousity probably is, too.

  4. Did anybody here read any of his books? And Romney doesn’t belong to the poligimist sect he is a member of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints” they stopped the poligimist beliefs long ago. And don’t support the poligimist sect “Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”. So don’t get them confused.
