Obama Holds First Post-Election Fiscal Cliff Meeting – With Union Thugs

CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS TAKE A BACK SEAT TO TRUMKA AND THE GOONS

Well now. Welcome to Barack Obama’s idea of post-election bipartisan politics. Old habits die hard, I guess. Especially when you have no intention of changing them in the first place. Yep, the newly reelected president, who told us last week he couldn’t wait to meet with John Boehner and hear the Speaker’s ideas for generating additional revenue as part of an effort to reach a compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff – got back to business as usual today.

The good news? O’s holding a meeting on the fiscal cliff at the White House as I write this post. The bad news? Its list of attendees includes AFL-CIO thug Richard Trumka, SEIU President Mary Kay Henry, AFSCME President Lee Saunders, NEA President Dennis Van Roekel and Justin Ruben of MoveOn. Oh yeah, and Bono.

Forgive my bluntness, but this little love fest has all the makings of a circle jerk – rather than a serious attempt to take advantage of what little post-election desire for compromise may exist.

The Regime said the meeting, which will also feature the wisdom of Joe Biden, would be “with leaders from the labor community and other progressive leaders to discuss the actions we need to take to keep our economy growing and find a balanced approach to reduce our deficit.”

Seriously? Trumka and his Big Labor cohorts are qualified to offer constructive recommendations on how Obama 2.0 can find bipartisan agreement with Boehner and the House Republicans exactly how? Besides, it’s not as if O isn’t fully in bed with his benefactors on their positions: higher taxes for “the rich,” untouched entitlements and more power for the unions.

Here’s AFL-CIO spokesman Jeff Hauser this morning:

“We’re not asking anyone to do anything that is politically courageous. It’s not politically courageous to implement the broad mandate that the president and Democrats received to raise taxes on the top 2%.”

Equally brilliant post-election analysis from SEIU government affairs Director Peter Colavito:

“Clearly there was a mandate from this election. The American people are with the president on taxing the wealthiest Americans. Our people expect leaders in both parties to honor that mandate and ask everyone to pay their fair share of taxes.”

Mandate? A shift of 333,000 votes in four swing states would’ve tipped the election to Romney, boys – stop with the “mandate” nonsense. As to whether or not “the American people” want a tax increase as part of a deficit reduction plan, one exit poll – which was completely ignored by the liberal media – found that 63% of those polled said “No” to raising taxes to lower the deficit. Here’s another - released yesterday.

To be fair, when the question was asked only about income-tax rates, 13% said they were okay with an increase for all, 47% wanted an increase only on incomes over $250,000 and 35% didn’t want increases for anyone. So, all such talk about “broad mandates” and “fair share” is simply untrue.

Besides – that 47%? Of course a fair percentage of the population (not the Rhodes scholars, I’m guessing) will forever be in favor of “sticking it to the rich,” which is precisely why the George Bernard Shaw quote – “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” – is permanently displayed on the right sidebar of Rat’s Right!

The Regime – apparently unaware that the election is over and their guy won – said that today’s meeting is part of a White House plan to publicly push to solidify support for tax hikes on the wealthy along with spending cuts to cut the deficit. Huh? The community organizer hasn’t stopped “publicly pushing to solidify support for tax hikes on the wealthy” since he announced he was running for president - the first time. Clearly, O remains incapable of grasping the difference between campaigning and governing.

Welcome to four more years of the same ol’ same ol’, America. Need more proof?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Obama also plans to travel outside Washington beginning next week in the hope of “broadening national support” for his “balanced” approach, which Regime officials believe won the backing of voters in last week’s election.

Hell – I bet that by the time O gets around to meeting with Congressional leaders Friday, he’ll be back in full-campaign mode. Unbelievable.

  1. And Leo Gerard uses labor to destroy yet another country. He’s not really an American, either.

  2. Either O has no perception of how yesterday’s blatant charade was viewed by those on the right who have announced their willingness to “compromise,” or he simply doesn’t give a damn. I suspect the latter.

One more bit of proof that “compromise” to this guy means his way or the highway. In yet another display of partisan politics, he appears perfectly willing to allow the “fiscal cliff” to happen – then blame the Republicans. Jackass.
