President Panic is on the road again today. This time, he’ll lie about the pending doom of sequestration at a ship-building facility in Newport News, Virginia.
O’s latest attempt to pressure House Republicans by continuing to whip up fear among low-information voters comes a day after Republican leaders urged him to “stop campaigning” and hunker down with Congress to hammer out a budget compromise before automatic cuts hit Friday, saying now is not the time “for a road-show president.” Good luck with that, guys. From The Hill:
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his leadership team returned to Washington in attack mode on Monday, putting the onus on President Obama to hammer out a plan with Senate Democrats to replace $85 billion in spending cuts that will begin to take effect on March 1.
At a Capitol press conference, Boehner gave no indication the House planned to act this week if the Senate did not do so first. Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) downplayed the scheduled cuts as roughly equivalent to 28 days of federal borrowing.
“Let’s put the sequester into perspective. It is $85 billion,” McCarthy said:
“We have a spending problem in Washington. We borrow more than a trillion dollars a year. We roughly borrow $85 billion every 28 days. So what we are looking to do is cut less than what we borrow in one month – not what we spend, but what we borrow.” Continue reading…
Wait – what? To hear the frantic wolf-crying O talk, the world as we know it will cease to exist come Friday: the elderly will starve, teachers will be fired, FBI agents will be furloughed, Border Patrol agents will be sent home, firefighters will be laid off, dangerous criminals will be freed from prison and “hundreds of thousands” of jobs will be lost. Here’s the Fearmonger-in-Chief:
“If Congress allows this meat-cleaver approach to take place, it will jeopardize our military readiness. It will eviscerate job-creating investments in education and energy and medical research. It won’t consider whether we’re cutting some bloated program that has outlived its usefulness or a vital service that Americans depend on every single day.”
If Congress allows this “meat-cleaver” approach to take place, O? What are you, chopped liver? Oh – wait – never mind.
Isn’t it ironic how, when it comes to playing politics, O places all the power (blame) with Congress – yet, when Congress refuses to pass bills he backs, he circumvents the legislative branch altogether by issuing executive order after executive order?
“These cuts are not smart, they are not fair, they will hurt our economy, they will add hundreds of thousands of Americans to the unemployment rolls,” said the dishonest president who lied last year about being the source of the sequestration proposal in the first place. During the third presidential debate with Mitt Romney, O said:
“The sequester is not something that I’ve proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed.”
According to Washington Post editor Bob Woodward, not exactly a stalwart of the right, that statement was a flat-out lie. Woodward wrote that O personally approved the mandatory-trigger proposal (sequester), which the Regime then presented to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in July 2011, which was ultimately passed by both chambers.
“So when the president asks that a substitute for the sequester include not just spending cuts but also new revenue, he is moving the goal posts.”
Anyway, back to O and the meat cleaver.
When Boehner & Co. called on you to abandon your ridiculous road show and sit down with Congress and bang out a deal (behave like a real president, in other words), it was precisely for the purpose of avoiding across-the-board cuts, O. But – truth be told – you don’t really want a deal, do you?
You don’t want your name attached to a real compromise, do you? No – that would give the Republicans a “victory” in your mind, which would interfere with your hellbent desire to destroy them prior to the 2014 midterms, wouldn’t it, O? Yep, a compromise with Republicans would allow them to escape unscathed – which would sidetrack your relentless campaign to regain the House, which would give you what you really want: two years of unhindered ability, in your mind, to do whatever you choose to do to America before you leave office.
So, there we have it. By refusing to negotiate with Republicans, and continuing to run around the country like Chicken Little crying the sky is falling, O will achieve one of two self-desired outcomes:
The Republicans will cave again – and he’ll “win.” Or, the GOP will stand firm, the sequester will hit – and low-information voters (Democrats) will once again blame the evil Republicans for the “disaster” – which won’t be a disaster after all.
Barack Obama’s America.
